The community's tax number: what it is, what it is for, and how to get it
A residents' association is not a company, but it has its own fiscal identity: the tax number.
What you need it for
- Opening the community's bank account.
- Contracting utilities and services (electricity, cleaning, insurance).
- Paying suppliers against an invoice.
- Filing form 184 or withholding returns if the community has income or employees.
How to apply for it
At the tax office (form 036), presenting the community's constitution minutes and the minutes appointing the chair. It can be done online with a digital certificate or at an in-person appointment.
And if the community is old and nobody can find it?
The tax number does not expire. Look for it on old bank receipts, on the insurance policy, or ask your bank branch. If it really is lost, the tax office will reissue it.
A tip for keeping order
Keep the tax number, the current appointment minutes and the insurance details together and accessible: those are the three documents you will be asked for in any procedure.
